About Mortar Lok | Stainless Steel Brick Veneer Reinforcement

Mortar Lok | Continuous Stainless Steel Brick Veneer Reinforcement

Upgrade your masonry projects with Mortar Lok, our premium brick veneer reinforcement system designed to replace traditional welded wire. Manufactured from a continuous, punched, and roll-formed stainless steel sheet (available in 304 or 316), Mortar Lok completely eliminates the risk of weld failures while providing consistent strength along the entire length. The unique punched design guarantees optimal grip within the mortar bed, and our updated T-joiners and straight joiners now feature a simple two-tab clip system for fast, secure connections on site.

Engineered to meet New Zealand’s tough conditions, Mortar Lok comes in standard 2-meter lengths, but can also be customised from 250mm up to 3000mm in convenient 50mm progressions to reduce on-site waste. Backed by full compliance with the NZ Building Code and our Product Assurance Supplier Statement (PASS™), it offers a reliable, heavy-duty solution for any professional bricklayer

Frequently asked questions

What sizes do the IBP Brick Ties come in, and how do I know which one to use?

Our Brick Ties are available in standard 90 mm and 115 mm lengths. You should select the correct length based on your specific cavity width and veneer thickness. As a rule of thumb, the tie needs to reach at least halfway across the width of the brick. It can't come within 15 mm of the visible front face.

What is the correct fixing spacing for the brick ties?

Brick ties must be fixed to the wall studs with a maximum spacing of 600 mm horizontally and 400 mm vertically. Additionally, you must position ties within 300 mm horizontally of any openings (like doors and windows).

How do I properly fasten the ties to the framing?

Brick ties must be screw-tied to the framing using the appropriate fixing.

What are the notches and angles on the ties for?

IBP Ltd brick ties are manufactured with a built-in 15° fall that sheds moisture from the framing toward the veneer. The profile is also designed so the tie does not kick up and obstruct the next brick being laid and mortared over it.

Are our stainless steel ties sharp to handle?

All of our stainless steel ties are polished to minimise the risk of cuts and abrasions during handling and installation.

What is the structural or earthquake rating of these dry ties?

Both our standard brick ties are built for New Zealand's tough conditions. The standard IBP Brick Ties are rated "Earthquake Heavy Duty" in accordance with AS/NZS 2699.1:2000.

Can I use Dry Ties for wet-bed applications?

Yes. Despite the name, our Brick Ties are designed and suitable for both dry-bed and wet-bed masonry applications.
